Who we are

Coachwerks Wholefoods is the trading name of EarthSea Workers’ Cooperative, a not for profit, social enterprise.

We are a small, independent wholefood shop & have complete autonomy over the products that we sell. We always aim to offer the most ethically sourced foods & products. Where we can, we buy local.  We are 100% vegan and mostly organic.

While we aim to make a living from running the shop, we believe good food should be affordable & so keep our prices as low as possible. This particularly applies to the wide range of  foods we sell as ‘Scoop & Weigh’. If you buy ‘Scoop & Weigh’ wholefoods, or loose Herbs & Spices, you’ll definitely save money!  It’s much cheaper than buying the same foods pre-packed.

We built the shop ourselves, with a lot of help from our friends. It’s painted with recycled paints & has doors salvaged from a skip!  We used Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood & the whole place is lit by LED lights (just 208 Watts).  The shop generates very little waste & this is mostly cardboard.  We use this to mulch our allotments, or to help heat the building.

We are part of the community. In future we’ll be putting on events that inform and empower people about sustainable, ethical food choices. We are always interested in hearing from like-minded people, who maybe want to use the Coachwerks (and the shop) as a venue.

You can find  our shop at the Coachwerks on Hollingdean Terrace, in the Hollingdean area of Brighton. Keep checking back here to keep up to date on the latest developments.

  1. Just popped in to buy some nuts and spices – really friendly, knowledgeable staff, great range of products, and even picked up some beer for the weekend! Will definitely visit again…
